Why is gurren lagann so sad

Thread Tools Show Printable Version. Gurren Lagann's Ending: What's wrong with it? Spoilers, obviously, as we're talking about the ending of a series. So, I've recently run into a couple people in real life who dislike Gurren Lagann's ending. I know there are others online who feel this way, but I never really gave the concept much though.

Now though, I have to ask; why? True, it's not a happy, everyone rides off into the sunset ever after ending, but it's not as depressing as others. And I think it remains pretty in line with the overall theme of the show. So, what's wrong with it. Note that this isn't an attack on anyone's taste. Edit: sorry, hit enter a tad early, so it got posted too soon.

Re: Gurren Lagann's Ending: What's wrong with it? Some people feel that it's an incredible Wall Banger that Spoiler. Simon decided to forsake Spiral Energy without using it one last time to bring Nia back. Offer up your robo-bananas to him. It's bittersweet, especially seeing how Simon believes that others should be the ones to travel down the tunnels he digs.

He crosses the Return Threshold look up monomyths for more info , an ending that is almost jarring when attributed to a man who when spurned by fate forged his own path, breaking karma's cycle of violence and battling with a mecha the size of super-galaxies.

Huh, I've always seen it as the exact opposite. Plus, bringing people back seems like a good way to bring about the Spiral Nemesis, as you'd constantly be adding mass to the system. Technically, he could just bring one person back, and no more, but that would be an incredibly selfish move, and betray some of what he promised the Anti-Spiral. He deliberately holds himself back because he has agreed to be the wall against the spiral nemesis. While his allies move to the stars to unite the spiral races, he keeps his power in reserve in order to utilize it if the nemesis arises.

Avatar by kpenguin Spoiler. Wait, does that mean he could revive the dead? When did they say that? I remember Gimmy asking Simon if he'd bring back the dead, but what made him think Simon could do that in the first place? Originally Posted by JeminiZero. Avatar by Ceika. Steam account. He might, he's never tried. Though who would he revive? Kamina's been dead for quite some time at the end of the series, Nia is the sacrifice he made to seal his pact with the anti-spirals, and Kittan would probably bring about the spiral nemesis.

While bringing back the others might be at worst, a neutral idea, it is exactly that form of power that the anti-spirals worked to prevent from entering the universe. By bringing back the dead, he would validate all of the anti-spiral's worries about the spiral races and their danger, and would likely bring about the end of the universe himself.

It seemed like a twist ending that didn't really add anything to the plot. Basically it the show could have ended the exact same way with Nia living without having any problems. I doubt she could have been brought back though. Also that little pig thingy turning human was pointless.

Really it just sort of happens and is never mentioned again. Spoiler: I'm a writer! The Lost Dragon : A story about a priest who finds a baby dragon in his church and decides to protect them. Although I think the idea with the spiral and the deeper meaning behind it is good, it just makes the series veeery predictable. Unbelievable how many "Epic" or "Awesome" comments there were, or "I cry like a baby" because of the death of a supporting character. I dont care any of the deahts. But how much more epic can I make this.

Oh well here goes. OK great! What show can possibly top this? Oh boy, poor Yoko. She'll remain single : Anyway, Kamina would be so proud of what his brother did. I can't believe I wait so long to finally watch this amazing anime. I literally cried. Really good conclusion to a very good anime. Cheese to the greatest anime to ever exist. Bitter-sweet ending I guessed because main characters didn't get to get together and had to be separated.

Many lifes were lost in the battle against Anti Spiral king while yesterday enemy becomes the today allies. Lordgenome also joined the battle to vanquish Anti Spiral. Feels like, they As were just deluding whole time being under the wrong impression of Spiral force obliterating universe because of the spirit and power they possessed. Nia dissipated after marrying with Simon, other got to live happily and Simon was a old man living his life alone doing what he was best for and It was what make him to carve the best future for tomorrow.

Everyone grew old while Viral still protecting the Universe working with human whom he despised most in the beginning. I wish he would have got married. Encapsulating the whole thing, anime was done perfectly, battles were nice, emotions flows while watching to the end and most importantly I like the message conveyed by the ending, "Human spirit is limitless".

Holy fuck the hype in that fight is insane. The scales are astronomical, just wow. The ending is really nice, I cried at a lot of the scenes that were shown. It's definitely one of my favorites now.

He's not really that "High spirited" by nature. In his heart there is a weight of not going to the surface with his father.

A worry of not being "strong enough". He himself says it. That's what makes him such a figure. He tries really hard to be an inspiring leader, to show no weakness to anyone, friend or foe. He has to hold the spirit of the entire team, which of course crumbles when he dies, but EVEN then, they continue out of respect for his legacy. So Erwin Smith deserves atleast 50k right?

Very similar character origins btw. Because of everything you mentioned, he does it better. He is humanity's greatest commander.

Sinzou wo Sasageyo!! BBCode Anime was it's best years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth. I don't know if the translation was wrong, because the kamina ever said "pierces the heavens" BBCode. People have to learn to let go and move on, making way for the new people. To keep bringing back Nia or the others would reinforce stagnancy which is pretty much what the Anti-Spiral was trying to accomplish.

Not to mention the consequences of abusing Spiral Power potentially leads to the Spiral Nemesis, which could easily happen if you keep reviving the dead this is under the pretense that people usually respond with "just bring her back for a little while longer! Many people will continue to extend their lives for one reason or another. Gurren Lagann is about moving forward and accepting that while our time is limited we can and should keep going.

I don't know if the translation was wrong, because the kamina ever said "pierces the heavens" Kamina uses the word "pierce", and Simon does too until the end when he does use "create". He's basically saying that the Anti-Spiral's reign of stagnancy will end, making new space for all Spiral races to expand and develop. Sorry for rambling, I ended up just reading a couple of posts and wanted to share my thoughts. That's it, I even researched later if he really said "create", and yes, it is "create" BBCode.
