Today I'm going to make a revolution. I go to bed every night disappointed but I'm back to work tomorrow, and that's the only way you can do it. I want a character to wake up one day and feel like, 'I can face it'. That, to me, is happy. I want the characters to rescue themselves, though you use the relationships you have, to make you strong enough to be able to do that. Mace, you never read Smoky the Cowhorse,did you? Well,ol' Smoky, he had somebad things happen to him,had the heart knocked clean out of him.
But he hung on and came out of it okay. I've been bashed up pretty good,Mason, but I'm going to make it. Never give up. Things will get hard. No relationship is easy. You have to work through your problems as if tomorrow isn't guaranteed, because it's not. Never go to bed angry and always make sure you say I love you every chance you get. I do not put much stock in "believing in God.
The things that are the hardest are the things that are due the quickest. The more time you have the easier it is to come up with things and navigate. I think the other things that are tough are films that are very, very subtle. Where there are little tiny nuances that make a big difference. I know with my size, a lot of people might think I'm like a slasher, a make-you-miss guy, which I can do that.
But I also like to lower my shoulder and get the tough yards, too. I like contact. I like to mix it up. I grew up in a very small town where nearly everyone knew each other, and odds were that whatever you said about a person would make it back to them by nightfall - something incomers learned, to their frequent embarrassment.
I'm just really a free spirit. You gotta be like that. It's only that complicated when you make it that way. I just wanna wake up and move with the way it goes. If it's meant to happen, it will happen. It would be helpful if we opened up ANWR. I think it's a mistake not to. And I would urge you all to travel up there and take a look at it, and you can make the determination as to how beautiful that country is. One of the biggest wake-up calls of my career was when I saw a record contract. And I have to pay you back the money you lent me to make it and then you own it?

I believe you make your day. You make your life. So much of it is all perception, and this is the form that I built for myself. I have to accept it and work within those compounds, and it's up to me. I think I have a God complex, and I like moving mountains and writing stories that affect entire worlds, and it's a bit hard to do that in a contemporary setting because you have reality intruding. Whereas, when you set your own reality, you can make up your own rules and do whatever you like.
We're so terrified of death in Western culture that we have to make up a myth of an afterlife. I think there's something to be said for living your life very mindful of the fact that you're going to die because I think you carry yourself differently.
It doesn't have to be this big, negative bummer. We have to wake up early and make songs everyday. I run my record label. You work at hours where your body isn't designed to work. But it's fun. Did you hear this?
They dressed up as women and went across the border into Pakistan. I think they're going to make a movie about it. They're going to call it 'Some like it Jihad. I just think, as writers, especially with a book that takes years to write, you sort of wake up every morning hoping and praying that you can make it work for the day.
Then there was LSD, which was supposed to make you think you could fly. I remember it made you think you couldn't stand up, and mostly it was right.
You might be thinking who is this Harry Potter girl? And what is she doing up on stage at the UN. It's a good question and trust me I have been asking myself the same thing. I don't know if I am qualified to be here. All I know is that I care about this problem. And I want to make it better. I could see the genius in allowing future to evolve. You could create momentum. You could launch something and see where it goes. You couldn't line everything up, like so many dominoes, and make everything fall into place.
My job is my sport so I have to make sure that I stay focussed on it. I train almost every day so it takes up a lot of my life and you don't want to bring any new distractions into your life. But sometimes you have to make a decision with your heart instead of your head, and that's what I did.
I know I've made the right decision even if it takes my brain a little while to catch up to my heart. It may just be that a true wake-up call creates a true shift in consciousness.
My wake-up call left me no choice. I had to make dramatic changes. Sometimes changes just happen within you, it is the way you approach things. Everything else stays the same. I don't believe in taking much of a divot, especially with the longer irons. You want to barely comb the grass through impact. It's the only way to catch the ball on the second groove up from the bottom of the clubface.
That's where you want to make contact: on the second groove. Somebody came up to me after a talk I had given, and say, "You make mathematics seem like fun.
